PURPLE POWER PLAY RETURNS TO CITY PARK!
In 2013, due to construction in Downtown, the event moved to City Park. After much deliberation, the board of directors are excited to announce that Purple Power Play will return to City Park Thursday, August 28 and Friday, August 29! Purple Power Play has enjoyed a great history in Downtown and we look forward to establishing new memories in City Park. The event will continue to offer an atmosphere of family fun with live entertainment, inflatables, vendors and much more. A complete schedule of festivities will be announced later this summer. Stay tuned!
Purple Power Play was created in 1988 by a group of four community volunteers to welcome students back to Downtown Manhattan and generate excitement for a less than successful K-State football team. The first event was a 2-day event held before the first home football game and featured a main stage on a flat bed trailer at 3rd and Poyntz in front of Manhattan Town Center mall and had less than 200 attendees. In 1999, Purple Power Play was incorporated as a non-for-profit organization.
How times have changed! Purple Power Play has become one of the largest events in Northeast Kansas with over 20,000 people attending the event over the two days. The event has grown to include an inflatable carnival, a pyrotechnics display, and a diverse group of more than 80 vendors. Today, Purple Power Play welcomes students, alumni and the entire community to Manhattan’s beautiful City Park prior to the first home Kansas State Wildcat football game. Purple Power Play continues to grow each year and will continue to be a Manhattan tradition for years to come.
